OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 — Product Class 1

OEKO-TEX Certified Labels for Children's Wear & Babywear Brands

In childrenswear, the label is not a branding afterthought — it is a safety statement. Parents read labels. Retailers require certifications. And a label that irritates a baby's skin, bleeds dye in the wash, or contains restricted substances is not just a quality problem — it is a liability problem. Labeloom holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification at Product Class 1, the highest classification available, specifically covering textiles in direct contact with infant skin. Every label we produce for childrenswear meets this standard as default.

01

What OEKO-TEX Product Class 1 actually means

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 has four product classes. Class 4 covers decorative materials with no skin contact. Class 3 covers outer fabrics. Class 2 covers garments worn close to the skin by adults. Class 1 — the most stringent — covers all textiles intended for babies and children under 36 months, and products with prolonged direct skin contact. Class 1 tests for over 100 potentially harmful substances, including formaldehyde, heavy metals including cadmium, lead and chromium, pesticide residues, allergenic dyes, and pH levels outside safe skin contact ranges. The certification is granted by an authorized independent institute, not self-declared, and is renewed through annual testing. Every yarn we use in woven labels carries this certification.
02

Why most label suppliers cannot make this claim

OEKO-TEX Class 1 certification requires the manufacturer to hold the certificate — not just use certified inputs. Most label resellers and intermediaries cannot offer this because they do not control the manufacturing process. They source from multiple factories and cannot guarantee which specific yarns or processes are used on any given order. As a factory, Labeloom controls every stage of production. Our yarn supply is certified, our processes are audited, and our certificate covers the finished label — not just the raw material. When you specify OEKO-TEX Class 1 in your product documentation, we can back it up with the certificate.
03

Soft, flat, and built for sensitive skin

Certification aside, childrenswear labels need to be physically comfortable. Our HD Woven Labels use 50-denier yarn — finer than standard woven labels — producing a softer, flatter result with no stiff backing and no protruding edges. End-fold and straight-cut options lie completely flat against the garment lining. For the most sensitive applications — labels sewn into babywear, sleepwear, or items worn directly against newborn skin — our Satin Woven Labels offer an even smoother surface and a slight sheen that parents associate with quality. Both are available with iron-on backing for brands that want to eliminate sewing entirely.
04

Care labels and compliance documentation

Childrenswear sold in the EU and US is subject to labeling regulations covering fibre content, country of origin, and care instructions. Our printed label range — available on satin, cotton, polyester, and Tyvek — can carry GINETEX care symbols, fibre content percentages, country of origin, and any additional text required for market compliance. All printed labels use inks that are wash-fast and do not fade or crack under normal use. For brands exporting to multiple markets, we can produce care label variants for different regulatory requirements in a single order.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is not universally legally required, but it is increasingly expected by retailers — particularly in the EU and premium segments. Many major retailers require OEKO-TEX or equivalent certification from their suppliers as a condition of listing.
Yes. Our iron-on woven labels use the same OEKO-TEX Class 1 certified yarns as our sew-on range. The heat-activated adhesive is also tested to OEKO-TEX standards. For maximum security on items that will be washed frequently, we recommend reinforcing with a few stitches around the edge.
For neck labels in direct contact with skin, we recommend HD Woven Labels with an end-fold finish. The fine 50-denier yarn produces the softest result. Satin Woven Labels offer a smoother surface and are a good choice for items where comfort is the primary concern.
50 pieces for HD and Taffeta Woven labels. 100 pieces for Satin, Iron-on, and Printed labels. No setup fee.
Yes. We hold Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for labels produced from 100% recycled post-consumer polyester. These can be specified alongside OEKO-TEX Class 1 for brands with both safety and sustainability requirements.
