Why outdoor and technical garments need a different label
A standard satin or cotton care label is designed for fashion garments that are worn, washed, and stored in normal domestic conditions. Technical outdoor garments — waterproof shells, insulated jackets, climbing harnesses, wetsuits, hiking trousers — exist in a different set of conditions. They are worn in rain, snow, and salt environments. They are washed more frequently and at higher temperatures. They are subjected to abrasion, compression, and UV exposure that accelerates the degradation of standard label materials.
A care label that becomes illegible after two seasons of outdoor use is not just a quality problem — for technical garments with specific care requirements, it is a functional problem. Washing a DWR-coated shell incorrectly because the care label has faded can permanently damage the waterproofing. Getting the label specification right for technical garments is not a detail — it is part of the product performing as intended.
